An emotionally charged VR narrative experience set in the aftermath of the Chornobyl disaster, told through the eyes of an aging former resident of Pripyat.
"Prometheus" is a VR experience that reimagines the Chornobyl disaster through mythology, art, and technology. Following a former CHNPP worker who embodies a modern-day Prometheus, the narrative blends realism and surrealism across iconic locations—Pripyat, reactor ruins, and helicopters over the Exclusion Zone. As the protagonist’s journey unfolds from exile to redemption during the 2022 Russian invasion, the experience explores themes of technology, responsibility, and resilience, integrating real testimonies from Chornobyl liquidators and survivors.
"Prometheus" is a VR experience that reimagines the Chornobyl catastrophe through the lens of mythology, art, and technology. The narrative follows a former Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (CHNPP) worker who becomes a modern-day Prometheus—punished, forgotten, and ultimately redeemed. Set in immersive digital recreations of Chornobyl’s historic locations, including the inside the ruins of Chornobyl reactor 4, city of Pripyat (nowadays and back in time), inside the helicopters and on the roof of machine hall, "Prometheus" combines realistic and surreal environments to offer a deeply emotional and thought-provoking experience.
The protagonist’s story mirrors the myth of Prometheus: pride in technological progress followed by punishment and exile due to the catastrophic nuclear accident. After decades of obscurity and stigma, the protagonist's redemption arc begins during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, where their bravery and covert actions played a pivotal role in resisting occupation and saving the CHNPP. This tale of tragedy and resilience raises questions about humanity’s relationship with technology, responsibility, and memory, while also highlighting critical issues such as ecological degradation, the legacy of nuclear weapons, and the societal costs of political and technological ambition.
The project utilizes advanced 3D scanning, Gaussian Splatting, and metahuman technology to recreate Chornobyl’s iconic locations with stunning realism. Surreal elements inspired by Greek mythology and Soviet architecture add a poetic layer, transforming the Chornobyl site into a temple-like shrine to Prometheus.
In addition, the project will incorporate the real-life stories and voices of 20 Chornobyl liquidators, CHNPP employees, and survivors of the Russian occupation of the station in 2022. These individuals will contribute their personal testimonies, which will be recorded, scanned, and integrated into the experience.
"Prometheus" merges hyperrealism with artistic surrealism, offering an unparalleled visual and narrative experience.
•Realistic visuals will feature authentic environments such as the Chornobyl NPP control rooms, the golden corridor, parts of the ruined sarcophagus, a liquidator’s apartment, and a flat in Pripyat—using advanced techniques like 3D scanning and Gaussian Splatting to recreate these spaces. Looks very real and a very important location for a story of a Catastrophe.
•Surreal visuals will incorporate artistic interpretations inspired by Soviet architecture, Greek mythology (e.g., Prometheus), industrial elements like pipes, nuclear reactor elements, and underground stone grottoes. We use the drawing on film negatives and 3d painting insede the virtual spaces. It transform the station into a metaphorical stone castle, merging history, archive veideos with myth.
